First Methodist Church first opened the doors to its Mother's Day Out program in the 1960s. In 1969, it became a preschool, which through the years has developed into one of the finest early education programs in the Tulsa area. Our school is known for the outstanding love and care each child receives. We are a place where faith and fun begin early.

Curriculum
At the ELA, we use state guidelines for child development as the foundation for everything we do in our classrooms. We use a theme-based curriculum to present information and activities in new and fun ways. We add in faith elements using the same curriculum as Sunday Mornings to support and expand their understanding of the Bible. Based on the most up-to-date research, our belief is that preschool should be all about learning through play and focus on social and emotional development while promoting independence and building school-readiness skills.
Facilities
Our building has large, well-organized classrooms cultivated for the individual age group they serve. Our rooms have a variety of engaging and educational toys in each room. Outside the classroom, our kids have two newly remodeled outside playgrounds and four options for indoor playtime. Our outdoor play areas feature elements geared for climbing, pretend play, a large grassy area perfect for tag or rolling downhill, a large concrete area great for scooters, balls, or picnics, and slides. Inside, we have the opportunity to use the gymnasium in our Youth and Family Complex, run or bounce in the bounce house in the First Kids Auditorium, enjoy the large playroom, or immerse ourselves in Sam’s Town. Sam’s Town is our innovative little town that is ideal for pretend play.
Special Events
Every Tuesday morning, we start our week with either chapel or Music and Movement. The kids love the opportunity to move their bodies and dance. We also have the privilege of monthly visits from a librarian from Central Library who hosts our preschool classes for story time, just like you would see at the library! Throughout the year, we offer a variety of special events. Some are for families, like our Christmas Program, End of the Year Bash, or monthly Parents on the Playground after school program. Others are just for kids to have a special playtime, like our Fall Festival or Grinch Day.
