Just Getting Started

Understanding Your New Faith

Choosing to follow Christ is a beautiful, life-changing step. Scripture says, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Your faith rests on Jesus—His life, death, and resurrection. Let that truth fill you with gratitude and peace.
If questions come, that’s okay. The Bible’s reliability has been confirmed through history and archaeology, showing that your faith is built on a solid foundation. You can trust God’s Word—it has stood the test of time.

Reading the Bible

The Bible is your guide to knowing God and understanding His heart. “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching” (2 Timothy 3:16). Start with the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—to see Jesus’ life and love in action. Then explore the letters for practical wisdom and encouragement.
Set aside quiet moments to read, reflect, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand. The more you read, the more you’ll see God’s character and His plan for your life.

Talking with God

Prayer is simply a conversation with God—sharing your heart, listening, and growing closer to Him. Jesus often prayed alone, showing us that it’s about relationship, not ritual. You can pray anywhere, anytime.
Start with gratitude, confess what’s on your heart, and ask for His help and guidance. Over time, prayer becomes as natural as breathing and fills you with peace.

Finding Community

Faith grows stronger with others. The Bible encourages us “not to neglect meeting together” (Hebrews 10:25). A church family offers support, teaching, and opportunities to serve. Look for a congregation that teaches God’s Word and centers on Jesus’ love and grace.
As you worship, learn, and serve together, you’ll find encouragement and lasting friendships.

Taking Next Steps

Baptism is a public declaration that you belong to Christ—it symbolizes your new life in Him (Romans 6:3–4). Talk with your pastor about this meaningful step.
Communion (or the Lord’s Supper) helps you remember Jesus’ sacrifice and renews your gratitude for His grace. It’s a sacred moment to reflect, give thanks, and draw close to Him.

Living As a Disciple

Following Jesus means continually learning, growing, and becoming more like Him. Surround yourself with mentors or small groups who can encourage and guide you. Scripture calls us to “clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience” (Colossians 3:12). These traits grow through practice and community.
When you stumble—and everyone does—turn back to God. He promises forgiveness and renewal (1 John 1:9). Obedience isn’t about earning His love; it’s how we live out gratitude for it.

Walking by the Spirit

You don’t walk this road alone. The Holy Spirit is your guide, comforter, and source of strength. When you face choices or challenges, invite Him to lead you. The Spirit shapes your thoughts, helps you discern truth, and draws you closer to God each day.

Serving and Sharing

God has given you unique gifts to bless others. Whether through hospitality, teaching, creativity, or kindness—use what He’s given you to serve in your church and community. As you do, you’ll find joy and purpose.
And don’t keep your story to yourself. Share how Jesus has changed your life. Your words and example can offer hope to others who are searching.

Staying Steady Through Challenges

Faith doesn’t mean life will be easy. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart—I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33). When doubts or hardships come, lean on Scripture, prayer, and community. God is faithful through every season.

Rejoicing in Your Identity

Above all, rejoice that you are now a child of God. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1). You belong to Him forever.
Walk in His love, grow in His Word, and let your life shine as a testimony of His grace.
