In 1886, the Reverend Wiley Bowden of the Arkansas Conference came to Tulsa to establish the first Methodist Episcopal church in the Indian Territory. The Staff Parish Relations Committee is excited to announce the selection of Doctor Andrew C. Thompson, of Springdale, Arkansas, as our next Senior Pastor. Andrew will begin his ministry among us in early January 2023.
Since 2015, Andrew has been Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Springdale, where his ministry focuses on preaching and teaching, discipleship formation, missions, and administrative leadership. He is particularly gifted in leading his congregation to pursue its primary purpose to connect people to God and each other by gathering in worship, growing in discipleship, and going into the world in mission.
Andrew is a gifted Biblical preacher who brings the scriptures to life through his messages. He has a heart for sharing the gospel around the world through long-term mission relationships in Peru, Cuba, and Kenya.
Most recently, Andrew has led First Church in partnering with Breaking Bonds, Inc., to create a 7-month residential, Christ-centered, addiction recovery ministry in Springdale. His church is the first congregation to bring the Breaking Bonds ministry to Northwest Arkansas.
A prolific writer and sought-after speaker, Andrew is considered one of the leading messengers of orthodox, Wesleyan theology today. He was recently invited to be a contributor to The Next Methodism: Theological, Social and Missional Foundations for Global Methodists. He has also written for a variety of print and online publications.
Andrew is married to Emily, and they are the proud parents of Alice (12) and twins Stuart and Anna Charlotte (both 9). As a family they enjoy baseball and softball games, riding their bikes, and hiking. After a period of school transition for the children, the Thompsons will make their home in Tulsa.
Please join us in praising God for hearing our prayers and leading us to our next Senior Pastor. God is Faithful! All The Time!
